Patient advocacy organizations work tirelessly to educate, promote, advocate, and raise awareness and funding for their causes. Awareness months give us the opportunity to rally around a common objective and show these organizations how much we appreciate their work. Join us as we celebrate by learning how you can help advance these NHC members’ missions and increase awareness.

Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

For Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, The Colorectal Cancer Alliance (CCA) launched a public awareness campaign called “Don’t Assume.” The goal of this campaign is to challenge assumptions and misconceptions about colorectal cancer by dispelling myths, raising awareness, and connecting people across the country with information and support.

There are many ways join the CCA and raise awareness during March:

  • Become a DIYnamo. Whether it’s by creating your own fundraiser or attending someone else’s, the CCA has made it easy for everyone to fundraise in support of the organization.
  • Lace up your sneakers and raise awareness by participating in a 5k or RunWalk.
  • Spread the word virtually with CCA’s social media toolkit. Don’t forget to include the hashtag #DontAssume.

National Kidney Month

During National Kidney Month, the American Kidney Fund (AKF) will be conducting free kidney screenings in six different cities. In addition, any donation made to AFK during the month of March will be doubled.

Both AKF and the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) have launched social media awareness campaigns featuring kidney facts in an engaging, shareable format. Help spread the message by sharing their posts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Education and Awareness Month

During MS Awareness Month, Can Do MS is celebrating the unsung heroes who provide invaluable support for people living with multiple sclerosis. They have launched a #MySupportHero initiative as a way of saying thanks to the family members, friends, and health care professionals who empower the community. You can get involved with #MySupportHero by using the hashtag, sharing and retweeting posts, and changing your profile picture to the symbolic virtual flower.

MS Awareness Week is March 10-16, and The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) wants to raise awareness by sharing stories from people living with MS. Follow NMSS on social media and share these stories to help more people better understand life with MS.

Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month

The National Hemophilia Foundation created the Red Tie Campaign as a grassroots awareness initiative to raise funds and awareness and find better treatments for bleeding disorders. Now in its third year, the Red Tie Campaign has become a nationwide campaign. To celebrate Bleeding Disorders Awareness month with the NHF and the Red Tie Campaign:

Show off your tie or other red accessories on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram with the hashtag #RedTieCampaign

Support NHF’s advocacy efforts by keeping up with Washington Days on social media. Held March 27-29, the annual Washington Days brings advocates from across the country to meet with legislators and congressional staff on Capitol Hill to advocate for key federal health issues.

Blood Clot Awareness Month

The National Blood Clot Alliance campaign, Together We Can Increase Awareness and Save Lives, highlights and shares essential information about blood clot risks, signs and symptoms, and prevention. Learn more here.

During BCAM 2019, and in connection with their Stop the Clot, Spread the Word™ campaign, orchestrated as part of a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NBCA will be running web banners and implementing other digital marketing tools to drive people to important public health information.
