The mission of the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) is to be the national advocate for the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Down syndrome affects people of all races and economic levels. Down syndrome is a genetic condition that occurs in one in every 691 births. It is the most frequently occurring chromosomal condition and is found in people of all races and economic levels.  More than 400,000 people in the United States have Down syndrome.

NDSS envisions a world in which all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life, realize their life aspirations, and become valued members of welcoming communities. Through its toll-free helpine, NDSS provides general information about Down syndrome and referrals to local and national resources. A free information packet is available to new and expectant parents and NDSS hosts a free monthly webinar on various topics relevant to the community. The NDSS website is the most comprehensive source of Down syndrome information available on the Internet.

This organization has completed the National Health Council’s Standards of Excellence Certification Program and meets the highest standards of accountability, ethical practice, organizational effectiveness, and good public stewardship.
