Campaign to Put Patients First -December 2009
Annette from Tennessee wrote to the NHC using the Share Your Story button on the NHC website: “I have an autoimmune disease called interstitial cystitis with intractable pain. I pay $1,172.00 each month for insurance and I’m unemployed. Now, I cannot even find a prescription drug plan that pays for my medicines. I am disabled and soon broke from paying for pricy medicines! What do I do? Please join me and ask for health care for seniors and disabled people.”
This is just one of the many stories shared through the Campaign to Put Patients First website in October and November 2009. They join the
- More than 4,600 people who have signed the NHC’s Petition for Health Care Change
- 3,600 unique visitors who went to the Campaign pages in those two months
- 1,642 followers on Twitter, including several media sites
- 397 fans on Facebook and more than 237 people who joined the Facebook Putting Patients First® Cause
The NHC tracks how visitors arrive at the main Campaign pages as part of its routine monitoring of the website. In October and part of November, visitors used links from the following sites to come to the Campaign:
- Autism Society of America
- American Kidney Foundation
- American Mental Health Counselors Association
- Association of American Medical Schools
- Breast Cancer Network of Strength
- Interstitial Cystitis Association
- Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation
- The ALS Association
Staff is also working with its web designer to create a new function on the website to give patients the opportunity to support the NHC’s activities through donations. The program will be activated around the beginning of the year.
