Delivering on the Promise of eHealth -December 2009
eHealth Initiative will hold its sixth annual conference on Delivering on the Promise of eHealth, January 25-26, 2010, in Washington, DC. With the support of the NHC, this conference will highlight specific examples of how eHealth programs are being pursued across the country. The conference will also address the challenging questions about the ability of the country to move towards meaningful use of health information technology in a way that improves the health and health care of the nation.
The NHC has been a visible proponent for electronic health records (EHRs) because of the benefits they can bring to patients with chronic diseases and disabilities. Last June, the NHC wrote to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology regarding the Health IT Policy Committee’s recommended timeline of requirements for meaningful use. A copy of the letter is available on the NHC website.
The eHealth Initiative’s conference will be the first in 2010 to put meaningful use and other policy issues under a critical microscope and help attendees understand how health IT can improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of health care delivery and can point the way for a more connected future. Policymakers, industry leaders, clinicians, and patients will participate in the discussions and debates revolving around eHealth issues that affect the entire American health care system.
In addition to supporting the conference, NHC’s Executive Vice President and COO Marc Bountin has been invited to serve as an expert advisor on a new eHealth Initiative task force studying care coordination.
