NHC UPDATE

<< Return to June 2010 Council Currents

health research funding

HealthResearchFunding.Org -June 2010

The National Health Council (NHC) in partnership with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Extramural Programs will soon unveil its new database that will make information on unfunded but worthwhile NIH research proposals available to the NHC’s members and other potential funders of health research.

The goal of this project is to create a dynamic new resource that will result in increased funding of health research and improve the health of people with chronic conditions.

The database is currently in development and is being beta-tested by the chief scientific/medical officers and researchers from NHC member patient advocacy organizations, and representatives from NIH. Once testing is complete, NIH will notify all non-funded applicants where research proposals were deemed significant and of scientific and technical merit of the availability of the database. Our goal is to unveil the website to patient organizations and researchers in late 2010 and eventually expand its availability to corporations and private investors.

The collaborative research database program was sponsored by Pfizer Inc and the National Institutes of Health.
