Health Care Reform -March 2010
On February 22, the Obama Administration posted on the Internet an outline of what it proposes Congress should include in a health care reform bill. You can read it here. The NHC sent a message to Campaign to Put Patients First supporters encouraging them to read the proposal and tell us what you they thought.
Among other comments, Frank wrote, “I support President Obama's health care reform plan,” and Sue commented, “When the President promises to end discrimination for all pre-existing conditions, I wonder if he is familiar with all of the known pre-existing conditions. Certainly he has read about diabetes and care for cancer survivors. Does his plan also take into consideration the needs of people with adult normal pressure hydrocephalus?”
J stated in an e-mail to the NHC, “The President's Proposal sounds wonderful. I have always wondered if I would live to see our government mandating the closing of the Medicare prescription drug ‘donut hole’ coverage gap and the end of insurance companies' discrimination against Americans with pre-existing conditions, among other much-needed provisions. Let's hope it happens.”
Also on February 22, the NHC sent a follow-up letter to President Obama, thanking him for convening the Health Care Reform Summit and reiterating the NHC’s request for a meeting with his staff to discuss ways ensure that patients remain at the forefront of the health care reform process. The NHC made the initial meeting request in late January on behalf of the 50 member patient advocacy organizations and the millions of people with chronic diseases and disabilities.
