Strategic Goals
- People with chronic diseases and disabilities and their family caregivers will recognize that the National Health Council provides them with a united voice to achieve effective and affordable health care.
- The National Health Council will forge partnerships and strategic alliances with major corporations to achieve improvements in health care for people with chronic diseases and disabilities.
Key Priorities
- Develop public awareness, program and advocacy initiatives on systemic health issues that advance patient-focused care, support health research, and strengthen the community of patient advocacy organizations.
- Develop and implement a public policy agenda to improve access to care, improve the quality of care, and increase funding for health research.
- Develop and implement program initiatives to support the National Health Council's public policy agenda.
- Implement the Campaign to Put Patients First to create and mobilize a grassroots network to advocate on behalf of the public policy agenda.
- Engage member patient advocacy organizations in a coordinated, united effort to accomplish our public policy agenda.
- Advocate for patient issues globally through the International Alliance of Patients' Organizations.
- Strengthen the community of patient advocacy organizations.
- Assure that all member patient advocacy organizations achieve the Standards of Excellence.
- Develop and implement initiatives to enhance capacity building by member patient advocacy organizations.
- Enhance the capacity of the National Health Council to meet its mission.
- Assure that the NHC's budget and other resources are sufficient and clearly aligned to accomplish the strategic plan.
- Forge strategic partnerships with major corporations to enhance fund development.
- Build the NHC's net assets/reserve fund.
- Recruit and retain new members.
