About the organization:

The Alzheimer's Association, the world leader in Alzheimer research and support, is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to finding prevention methods, treatments, and an eventual cure for Alzheimer's. Since 1980, the donor-supported, not-for-profit Alzheimer's Association has provided reliable information and care consultation; created supportive services for families; increased funding for dementia research; and influenced public policy changes.

The Alzheimer's Association's vision is a world without Alzheimer's and its dual mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research and to enhance care and support for individuals, their families and caregivers.

About the condition(s):

Alzheimer’s disease (pronounced AHLZ-hi-merz) is one of several disorders that cause the gradual loss of brain cells. Although the disease was once considered rare, research has shown that it is the leading cause of dementia.

Approximately five million Americans have this disease. Although many things about Alzheimer’s remain a mystery, research continues to bring us a better understanding of the disease, more accurate diagnoses, and more effective treatments.
