the organization: The American Liver Foundation (ALF) is the nation's leading nonprofit organization promoting liver health and disease prevention. ALF provides research, education and advocacy for those affected by hepatitis and other liver-related diseases. About the condition(s): Many diseases can affect the liver, causing the liver not to work as well as it should. Some of the most common diseases include: viral hepatitis, where viruses attack the liver; cirrhosis, where large parts of the liver have been scarred or damaged; and liver cancer, where cells in the liver begin to reproduce faster forming growths called tumors. |
