| About the organization: The National Eczema Association for Science and Education (NEASE) was founded in 1988 by individuals with atopic dermatitis/eczema, nurses, physicians and others concerned with the social, medical and economic consequences of the disease. NEASE works to improve the health and quality of life of persons living with atopic dermatitis/eczema (those who have the disease as well as their loved ones). The association provides emotional support, information and resources, raises public awareness and funds biomedical research. Vicki Kalabokes, acting CEO, serves as member liaison to the Council. About the condition(s): Atopic dermatitis/eczema is a disease that causes itchy, inflamed skin. It typically affects the insides of the elbows, backs of the kness, and the face, but can cover most of the body. Atopic dermatitis falls into a category of diseases called atopy, a term originally used to describe allergic conditions asthma and hay fever. Atopic dermatitis was included in the atopic category because it often affects people who either suffer from asthma and/or hay fever or have family members who do. Physicians often refer to these three conditions as the "atopic triad." |
