Standards of Excellence®
The National Health Council (NHC) has adopted a set of good operating practices to ensure that its patient advocacy group members (also known as voluntary health agencies) maintain the highest standards of organizational effectiveness and public stewardship.
Health Leadership Conference
Each year, the National Health Council hosts an Annual Health Leadership Conference for key stakeholders in the health community to informally meet, share information about emerging issues in health care and nonprofit organization management, and to learn from nationally recognized experts and each other.
Science of Patient Engagement Symposium
This meeting focuses on the science of patient engagement and was formerly called the Chief Medical/Science Officers Conference. Research leaders share - with a broad scientific audience - their experiences, accomplishments, best practices, and resulting impacts on medicine and science regarding patient centricity.
Washington Representatives Retreat
Annually, the NHC hosts this two-day retreat that allows government relations, public policy, and advocacy staff from NHC patient and nonprofit member organizations to gather and discuss strategic, operational, and policy development issues in the health care environment for the following year’s activities.
The National Health Council produces an array of publications for the public, such as Council Currents, the Management Compensation Report, and Health Groups in Washington. The NHC also produces the VHA Revenue Survey, which is available for members only.
Affinity Groups bring together staff from NHC members who share similar responsibilities within their organizations. They gather to discuss issues common to their area of work and offer advice to NHC staff.
