Director, Development, National Health Council

Location: This position is located in Washington, DC. The National Health Council supports a hybrid workplace. Employees must be able and willing to work on site at least three days per week, pending federal and local health authority guidance.

Created by and for patient organizations over 100 years ago, the National Health Council brings diverse organizations together to forge consensus and drive patient-centered health policy. We promote increased access to affordable, high-value, sustainable health care. Made up of more than 160 national health- related organizations and businesses, the NHC’s core membership includes the nation’s leading patient organizations. Other members include health-related associations and nonprofit organizations including the provider, research, and family caregiver communities; and businesses representing biopharmaceutical, device, diagnostic, generic drug, and payer organizations.

The Director, Development will assist the NHC in driving its fundraising and business development efforts. The Director of Development will collaborate in the development, and lead the implementation, of the NHC’s fundraising strategy by cultivating membership, corporate partnerships, and potential funders thereby promoting opportunities that can enhance NHC’s ability to raise funds.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the Executive Vice President, direct the design and execution of an effective strategic fundraising program in alignment with the NHC’s initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Executive Vice President, to cultivate and manage relationships with members, corporations, and other relevant organizations.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the NHC programs and priorities to pursue new funding sources.
  • Manage the development life cycle from proposal through to measurement and reporting.
  • Collaborate with various teams in developing funding proposals, implementing creative and customized fundraising approaches to ensure consistent and compelling appeals for funding opportunities.
  • Provide support and promote opportunities for engagement with potential funders committed to supporting and advancing strategic goals.
  • Promote NHC through our events and participation in funder events.
  • Cultivate ongoing relationships with sponsors and prospects to ensure an understanding of their interests and alignment with NHC’s mission.
  • Develop and execute a strong, progressive comprehensive business development strategy in alignment with the NHC’s annual and long-term goals.
  • In partnership with the Executive Vice President work closely with volunteer leaders to leverage their networks and insights for business development activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience building and leading fundraising activities.
  • Experience with corporate fundraising.
  • Experience with grant writing and proposal development.
  • Experience working for a non-profit patient advocacy organization or association preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated success identifying and cultivating new prospects, converting prospects to funders, and maintaining multiple funder relationships.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to craft compelling, influential fundraising communication.
  • Exceptional people skills and the ability to engage and build relationships with donors, prospects, and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and resource management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage various tasks.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, marketing, or relevant field
