By: Silke Schoch, Senior Manager, Research & Programs, National Health Council

In case you missed it, the National Health Council’s (NHC’s) Research and Programs department has great resources for researchers interested patient-centered studies. Some of these tools include:

  • Patient Compensation Tools : This toolbox features the Patient Engagement Activities Framework, Fair-Market Value (FMV) Calculator, and Principles for compensating patients for patient engagement activities. The online FMV calculator can be used to estimate the appropriate hourly compensation range for patients, caregivers, and patient groups. This toolbox can be used by medical product developers, patient advocacy groups, patients, caregivers, researchers, and others interested in providing fair compensation for patient engagement work.
  • Value Classroom : This classroom includes introductory training on health economics and value assessment (VA), a plain-language value assessment glossary, a value framework Get-Ready Checklist for Patient Organizations, and more! This online resource collection helps patients and patient advocacy groups understand and engage in conversations around value in health care and VA.
  • Real-World Evidence (RWE) Classroom: The NHC also offers its Real-World Evidence (RWE) classroom. This classroom helps patients, patient advocates, medical product developers, researchers, and others identify and include patient engagement into the design, conduct, and translation of real-world research. Toolbox resources include a training series on real-world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE), a RWE glossary, and helpful infographics for researchers that are new to RWD and RWE.
