Lupus is a chronic disease that can cause inflammation and pain in any part of the body. Lupus is an autoimmune disease, which means that your immune system — the system that usually fights infections — attacks healthy tissue instead. The Lupus Foundation of America mission is to improve the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, support and advocacy.
