FDA Commissioner Gottlieb to Keynote NHC’s 2018 Chief Medical/Scientific Officers Conference

07/19/2018

We’re hosting our annual Chief Medical/Scientific Officers Conference on October 15-16 in Washington, DC. The theme this year is “Sharing Patient-Centered Outcomes Data: Building A Better Mousetrap Based on Learnings from the Research Community,” and will include panels on patient engagement in clinical research and data warehousing and sharing.

FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb’s keynote will focus on best practices for patient-focused drug development, including how to best collect, store, integrate, and learn from the findings. Also joining us from the FDA is Dr. Theresa Mullin. Dr. Mullin is the Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

Chief medical, scientific officers, and research directors traditionally work within their respective disease groups or industries. Each year, the NHC CM/SO Conference brings together research leaders from patient groups, nonprofit health organizations, and industry, offering participants a rare opportunity to connect, communicate, and network.

Attendees from last year’s conference had positive feedback about the program and the opportunity to learn from colleagues and government officials.

“The platform talks did not come across as lectures. The audience was engaged, awake, and asking questions,” an attendee said.

Multi-stakeholder research leaders can share – with a broader scientific audience – their experiences, accomplishments, best practices, and resulting impact on science and medicine. Attendees learn how a variety of stakeholders, including patient organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and others, are enhancing patient access to effective treatments to improve patient outcomes.
