National Health Council Announces Election of Two Board Members

Washington, DC (June 29, 2016) – New board members were elected during a meeting of the National Health Council (NHC) Board of Directors on June 14 to fill vacancies resulting from the retirement of two members. The new members are:

Kevin L. Hagan
Chief Executive Officer
American Diabetes Association
Alexandria, Virginia

Richard F. Pops
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Waltham, Massachusetts

The NHC Board of Directors is working with the NHC staff to focus on these policy issues:

  • Strengthening the health insurance marketplaces to protect people with chronic conditions
  • Championing the patient voice in value, quality, system design and payment models
  • Presenting a united patient voice as FDA and industry negotiate the user fee agreements
  • Promoting the integration of the patient perspective into the development and regulation of medical products
  • Working with the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions as it works to pass the Innovation for Healthier Americans legislation

The National Health Council (NHC) is the only organization that brings together all segments of the health community to provide a united voice for the more than 133 million people with chronic diseases and disabilities and their family caregivers. Made up of more than 100 national health-related organizations and businesses, the NHC's core membership includes the nation’s leading patient advocacy organizations, which control its governance and policy-making process. Other members include professional and membership associations, nonprofit organizations with an interest in health, and representatives from the pharmaceutical, generic drug, health insurance, medical device, and biotechnology industries.
