In the coming year, the priority issues for the NHC will include:

  • Rally the patient community to fight for patient protections in the efforts to repeal and replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
  • Further the science of patient engagement to ensure the patient voice is an integral part of medical product development, value determinations, and care delivery.
  • Develop a multi-stakeholder approach to lowering the costs of medical products and services while ensuring innovation and access.
  • Serve as the leading patient voice on the reauthorization of the Food and Drug Administration user fees.

The National Health Council (NHC) is the only organization that brings together all segments of the health community to provide a united voice for the more than 133 million people with chronic diseases and disabilities and their family caregivers. Made up of more than 100 national health-related organizations and businesses, the NHC's core membership includes the nation’s leading patient advocacy organizations, which control its governance and policy-making process. Other members include professional and membership associations, nonprofit organizations with an interest in health, and representatives from the pharmaceutical, generic drug, health insurance, medical device, and biotechnology industries.
