POSITION SUMMARY: The Policy Associate provides administrative and programmatic support to the Vice President, Policy and Government Affairs and Executive Vice President, Strategic Initiatives.

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Policy and Government Affairs

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Collaborates with all NHC staff and interacts with members at all levels.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Providing administrative and programmatic support
• Processing reimbursable expenses, including AMEX statements for timely payment
• Provides support in managing of a team of consultants and their deliverables
• Serving as project lead on an assortment of NHC policy initiatives
• Providing meetings and logistical support (e.g., scheduling meetings, taking and/or distributing meeting minutes)
• Compiling materials for program, policy development, and advocacy activities/meetings
• Providing general administrative support (e.g., copying, filing, managing databases, performing relevant record keeping, making travel arrangements, and assisting with office-wide administrative tasks)
• Maintaining systems to process and track legislative, administrative, program, and other contacts
• Drafting/editing and sending routine correspondence and memoranda
• Conducting research and analysis of legislative and policy issues
• Attending hearings, briefings, coalition meetings, and conferences and preparing summaries
• Assisting with drafting letters and other advocacy materials such as issue briefs, fact sheets, reports, and slide presentations
• Performing other duties as assigned

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Microsoft CRM and Cvent preferred
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment
• Self-motivated and ability to work proactively and independently when necessary
• Ability to troubleshoot and work well under pressure

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in administration, political science, public health, or a related field and/or at least two years of administrative or programmatic experience, preferably with a nonprofit or health organization
